About this event

Moderation: Dilay Kocogullari (IADE)
The roundtable proposes a space for critical reflection and exchange of ideas on contemporary practices at the intersection of art, design, and biology. Bringing together perspectives from artistic creation, laboratory research, and education, this conversation explores how biodesign and bioart have emerged today as hybrid, experimental fields.
The discussion will feature Dilay Kocogullari, who will address bioart practices in Portugal and abroad, highlighting trends, methodologies, and critical positions. Rafael Calado will present the laboratory dimension through the case of BIOLAB Lisbon, emphasising the challenges and potential of biological experimentation in open and collaborative contexts. Filipa Alves will bridge between science and design and share practical experiences focused on developing a BIOLAB at IADE, while Carla Paoliello will reflect on integrating biodesign into teaching and learning processes.
More than simply mapping practices, this roundtable aims to reveal the role of biodesign and bioart in reshaping relationships between humans and living systems, and their intertwining with current ecological challenges.
