This talk will cover the architectural changes that led us away from a complex GraphQL Federation Service to a simple REST API. We’ll share why we migrated our core service from Python to Rust to meet performance demands, reduce costs, and streamline operations — and how a “boring” architecture can lead to a much brighter future.

**#3: RBAC to ReBAC – Zanzibar Google Implementation**

**Abstract:**
Crafting a scalable Identity and Access Management (IAM) system is no easy task. RBAC has long been the go-to model, but modern systems often suffer from “role explosion.”
In this talk, we’ll explore how Grafana Labs transitioned to Relationship-Based Access Control (ReBAC), inspired by Google Zanzibar, to address growing complexity with a more expressive, flexible, and manageable approach to authorization.
