About this event
Software testing is evolving at lightning speed — from the tools we use to the very way we define “quality.” This meetup brings together two seasoned QA leaders who will help us navigate both sides of this transformation:
On one hand, understanding how to choose and work with modern testing frameworks while keeping an eye on the rise of AI in automation.
On the other, redefining how we think about Quality Assurance and Quality Engineering — and why embracing both mindsets is key to building high-quality products.
Join us in Porto for an evening of practical learning, thought-provoking discussions, and community connections as we explore the frameworks, processes, and principles shaping the future of QA.
Where: Cleva Insurance Software (R. do Zambeze 289, 4250-505 Porto)
When: 10th September 2025, 18:30 (Portugal Time)
Session 1
Title: Testing Frameworks: A Practical Comparison
Speaker: Allan Ferreira – QA Engineer at Mindera
Overview:
Automation frameworks evolve quickly, and choosing the right one can make or break your testing strategy. In this session, Allan Ferreira won’t prescribe a “best” tool — instead, he’ll compare Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, and others, highlighting their features, ecosystems, and trade-offs.
To cap it off, Allan will showcase an AI-generated test versus a QA Engineer’s approach, offering insights into how artificial intelligence is reshaping test automation.
Key Takeaways:
Understand the strengths and weaknesses of popular testing frameworks
Learn how to evaluate frameworks based on project needs and trade-offs
Explore the impact of AI on test automation practices
About the Speaker:
Allan Ferreira is a QA Engineer with 10 years of experience across Manual and Automated Testing. Proficient in JavaScript-based frameworks like Playwright and CodeceptJS, he has worked in industries spanning Retail, E-commerce, Finance, Gaming, and Access Management.
He has strong expertise in Front-End and E-commerce testing, while also bringing experience in API and Mobile testing. As a Co-Leader and Host at The Test Tribe Porto, Allan actively contributes to the QA community by helping organize monthly meetups for QAs.
Session 2
Title: Quality Assurance or Quality Engineering? Why Not Both?
Speaker: Diogo Rede – QA Team Lead at Hugo Boss
Overview:
In software, companies adopt different approaches to maintain high-quality standards — but what’s the right way? Should we test exhaustively, or embed quality into the process from the very start? Should testers be the guardians of quality, or should developers champion it first?
Through real-world examples, Diogo Rede will unpack the evolving roles of QA and QE, and show how both can work together to ensure high-quality products.
Key Takeaways:
Define Quality Assurance vs. Quality Engineering
Understand the unique needs of QA and QE in modern teams
Learn how to transition from QA to QE for stronger quality practices
About the Speaker:
Diogo Rede began his career in Radiology before transitioning into IT, where he found his passion for QA. With experience at Critical Software, Farfetch, TestRail, and now Hugo Boss, he has worked across industries like telecom, e-commerce, betting, and fashion.
Specializing in automation, web, mobile, and API testing, Diogo has led dedicated test automation teams and today serves as QA Team Lead at Hugo Boss Digital Campus. There, he built a QA team from the ground up, driving quality strategies in agile e-commerce product development.
