Advanced ELENA Course on international protection in EuropeGet ready for the 2024 Advanced ELENA Course on International protection in Europe!

This year the course will take place on Friday 22 November and Saturday 23 November at the HF Ipanema Park Hotel in Porto, Portugal.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the latest developments in European asylum and migration law and to engage with practitioners, academics and decision-makers from all over Europe.

This year’s course will explore recent jurisprudence and practices of the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Court of Human Rights as well as how to engage with the UN Treaty Bodies. Increasingly relevant topics such as Artificial Intelligence and external agreements with third countries will also be discussed.

Three workshops will offer participants the chance to gain practical knowledge of crucial topics such as access to legal aid in detention, the Pact on Migration and Asylum and national security. Please find a draft agenda here. Please note that timings may be subject to change and the agenda will be updated over the coming weeks.

Conference programme

ECRE is honoured to announce the participation of several distinguished speakers, including Thomas Straub, Registry Lawyer at the European Court of Human Rights; Anthony Michael Collins, Advocate General of the Court of Justice of the EU and Anna Batalla, Secretary for individual complaints to the CRC, CESCR, CRPD, CEDAW and CED.

Who should attend?

The course is open for registration for human rights specialists, lawyers working in the field of migration and refugee law, EU and national officials.

Registration fees

• ELENA Coordinators: €430 euros

• NGOs, practitioners, others: €470 euros

• Government and international organisation officials: €570 euros

Interested participants should register by 22 October 2024 to secure a place.

What is included in the registration fee?

Participation to the course on the 22 and 23 November, lunch on both days and coffee breaks as well as the social dinner on Friday 22 November evening.

Note that flights and accommodation are not covered and are the responsibility of participants.
