About this event

Featuring Margarida Villas-Boas, Co-Founder of UpFarming

Join Palma Michel for the first event of Explorers Mind: series—a space for deep, authentic conversations that bridge entrepreneurship, psychology, sustainability, impact, and conscious leadership. In each event, we’ll engage with visionary change-makers, impact-driven entrepreneurs, and individuals with extraordinary stories.

The first in the series introduces Margarida Villas-Boas, co-founder of UpFarming, an NGO dedicated to revolutionising urban agriculture through vertical farming. UpFarming is known for its innovative projects like the “Vertical Horticulture, Horizontal Solidarity” pilot initiative at the Torres Novas prison in Portugal, where inmates are learning to farm as part of a rehabilitation program.

Margarida will share her journey as an entrepreneur, her insights on how vertical farming is reshaping education, employment, and sustainability, and how food as medicine can have a profound social impact.

About Margarida Villas-Boas:

With over two decades of experience in senior management, marketing, and fundraising across Portugal, Spain, and the UK, she played a pivotal role in restructuring the London-based operations of Ace Africa UK, a development NGO in rural Kenya and Tanzania. After completing her master’s in 2020, Margarida co-founded UpFarming, where she continues to lead innovative and socially impactful projects.
