Recently, Go introduced the support for Profile-guided Optimization (PGO). PGO is a compiler optimization technique that uses data from a previous compilation run to improve the quality of the generated code. The data is collected by instrumenting the program and running it on representative inputs. The collected data is then used to guide the compiler to produce better code.
In this talk, we will look into the profiling techniques in the existing Go toolchain and discuss how we use PGO at Sixt to improve the performance of our Go services. We will also discuss the challenges we faced while integrating PGO in our CI/CD pipeline and how to solve them.
