About this event

Happy New Year everyone! Let’s get back to our meetups. To start off the year, we’ll be hosted by PCI - Creative Science Park and running on the theme of Reliability.

18:30h - Check-in and networking

18h50 - Quick intro of the project

19h00 - Talk: Baking in Reliability by Ricardo Castro, Principal SRE @ Fan Dual / Blip

19h30 - Coffee break

19h45 - Open space discussion

20h30 - Closing

**Talk Abstract:**

The last few years saw a log of interest in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE). Ever since Google publish the first SRE book ([https://sre.google/books/](https://sre.google/books/)) there was an “explosion” in the interest on the subject. Many saw it as an approach to implement DevOps. Others said it was a DevOps evolution. Regardless, SRE is here to stay. Moreover, reliability is here to stay.

But if you were tasked with implementing “reliability engineering” how would you approach? What would would be the steps you would take into achieving that audacious goal, both cultural and technical?

That’s precisely what we’ll explore in this talk. We’ll talk about practical advice on how to get started but also how to get the ball rolling. We’ll discuss culture and tech and how they have to work together if you wish to prioritize reliability engineering.

**Speaker Bio:**

Principal Site Reliability Engineer at FanDuel/Blip\.pt\. MSc in Computer Science by the University of Porto\. CK\{AD\, A\, S\} by Cloud Native Computing Foundation \(CNCF\) \| Linux Foundation\. \{Terraform\, Consul\, Vault\} Associate by HashiCorp\. Working daily to build high\-performance\, reliable and scalable systems\. DevOps Porto meetup co\-organizer and DevOpsDays Portugal co\-organizer\. A strong believer in culture and teamwork\. Open source passionate\, martial arts amateur\, and metal lover\.

**About the Event Format :**

We’ll be running a common format, similar to our previous event. We’ll start with a 30 min talk, followed by a short break and an open-space activity.

An open-space discussion, if you’ve never participated in one, is a great learning opportunity. The agenda is attendee driven. If you have a topic you’d like to discuss amongst your peers, bring and propose it. It can be anything - a question based on the talk of the day, any technical issue you are looking for experience and solutions for, a topic you’d like to hear other’s opinions on, etc. Topics will be voted on (depending on how many are presented) and breakout groups can discuss each one.
