More about the Monsanto Ping Pong Club
It all started during Covid, in August 2021, with a strong wish to be more active, social and outdoor. Back then, week days were no different than weekends and Covid just made it worse. So, when I finally pushed myself to take some deserved holidays after 4 years of mumpreneurship, my mentor Kam invited me to go play ping pong at Monsanto park and I immediately thought “why not open this to more people?” and start making my Saturdays look more like weekends and less like another work day. So we gave it the name “Monsanto Ping Pong Club” and opened it to everyone. Soon after and even with the strong and dry heat of 36º we were 10, 20, 30, 50 people playing and the 4 ping pong tables weren’t enough anymore. Then the rain came and I spoke with the Head of Sports of my Highschool in Alvalade (Rainha Dona Leonor) and he convinced the Dean to have a meeting with me and Voilá! The school was opened for the first time to other people, besides their students.
Today we have families, locals, expats in a truly inclusive and diverse group and I am happy that the initial vision I had for it came to fruition - Inspiring joyfulness.
We have kept this as a friendly, not competitive gathering, although we do allow the pros to come together once a year and play in a Tournament. For people like me we do the FUNnament where we just giggle and play for fun the whole time. Giggle medals, not Sport medals. :)
People often ask me to play with them ping pong because they think that if I created this group I must be really good at it, but it was just an excuse remember? :) My passion is dance!
We are now a group of nearly 20 co-organizers and I can´t wait to see more people joining the party. If you have a fun event in mind you would like to organize we can use our team to help you.
We plan to keep having a lot of fun along the way, so join us. It’s always better with friends.
