About this event

**Two free inspirational talks. One from an Open-Source guru & another from a Lisbon-based tech leader about building a company empowering remote work, who will also be speaking at Web Summit in November (oh, and free 🍕🍺**)

Our Lisbon launch event is happening on the 29th of September at Idea Spaces, Palacio Sotto Mayor in their Auditorium. As a distributed coding community, we feel it’s important to make the event accessible wherever you are, so we will also have the event live streaming to YouTube if you can’t physically make it.

The theme for this meet-up is the “Biggest challenges as a founder” and we have two amazing leaders who are currently based in Lisbon.

**Marcelo Lebre**

Marcelo Lebre is Co-founder and COO of Remote, the company making global employment accessible for businesses of all sizes.

Marcelo previously worked as the VP of Engineering at Unbabel, has held several CTO positions and is a startup advisor. In addition to his Remote Engineering Stories podcast, he frequently speaks at events about engineering leadership and managing remote teams. He is a passionate engineer, proud dad, and sci-fi nerd.

Remote’s team is over 900 employees that are fully distributed and working remotely, synonymous with the mission statement of the company which is “to simplify how companies employ global talent”.

Codemads is a Distributed Coding Community focussing on generating high-quality connections in tech hubs around the world and the mission at Remote is one that aligns perfectly with the core values of what we want to do, empower the new remote first world.

**Martin McKeaveney**

Martin having recently moved from Belfast to Lisbon is the Co-founder and CTO of Budibase, an open-source no-code tool that empowers internal teams to build internal platforms.

As a coding community, we know that the open source space is the most essential part of the dev community. In line with the theme, Martin will talk about the biggest challenges when building an OS start-up. Competing with the likes of Retool and Appsmith, Budibase faces an entirely different set of challenges for a technical co-founder.

**The Venue**

IDEA is a community. If at first glance it may seem like a network of cowork spaces, the truth is that, when experienced, everything becomes clearer. A community cannot be explained, and neither can the IDEA experience. You could only live it.

This is the right “place” for those looking for people with whom to share much more than the same workspace. If you’re looking for people to share ideas, knowledge, or just a beer; to find amazing businesses and inspiring people; or people who celebrate your success and support you in the most challenging moments; this is the “place”.

With more than 2.000 members, more than 360 companies, 4 premium locations in Lisbon, it is one of the first coworking spaces created in Portugal and one of the largest communities of entrepreneurs in the country.

You can learn more about IDEA and its memberships on its digital channels, or stop by for a visit!
